About our Tuakana rākau
The Tuakana Koikoi is designed for whānau aged 10 years and above. At 135cm, it represents the next stage of growth, where confidence is strengthened through discipline, commitment, and practice. What is Tāmaki Regionals?
This taonga was originally created for the 2026 Tāmaki Regionals kapa haka event, where Tekotiri had the privilege of sharing our kaupapa through a market stall. Surrounded by kapa haka, culture, and community, these taonga became part of a celebration of identity and connection.
What is a koikoi?
Traditionally, the koikoi was a long spear sharpened on both ends, used with a two-handed grip to strike and parry.
At Tekotiri, each taonga carries its own mauri, reminding us that every journey is unique. More than rākau, they are pathways of connection, guiding whānau back to their whakapapa and forward into their own journey.
